Objective

  • In this short, easy course you will learn how to create and produce virtual events.

How to produce a virtual event.

Hello! I’m Chuck Roy, professional comedian and producer of successful virtual events like the ApocaLips Comedy Show and Open Mike. Plan on laughing, learning and having fun in this unique, virtual happy hour because I’ve invited experts from our comedy shows, local charities, and theatre nerds to get creative and put on virtual shows!

In this course, we’ll be producing upcoming virtual events that are happening in the next 10-weeks. We’re going to produce Virtual Pub Theatre Battles and a Virtual Comedy Showcase.

Plus, we’re going to demonstrate how to produce a virtual fundraising event for charity.

To get started on your virtual event, follow the 5-Steps of Virtual Event Production.

  • STEP 1 Gather Information
  • STEP 2 Pre-Production
  • STEP 3 Production
  • STEP 4 Post-Production
  • STEP 5 Evaluation

We follow each of these steps, one lesson at a time. Scroll down to the end of this article for the lessons.

What’s your idea for a virtual event?

Virtual Events use video, audio and broadcasting to connect people. You might be planning something as simple as a family gathering or as important as Elevating Connections “Celebrate”, an annual fundraiser that suddenly needs to become a virtual event.

What are some of the events you can produce virtually?

  • Virtual Happy Hours
  • Zoom Comedy Shows
  • Corporate events
  • Charity Fundraisers
  • Virtual Bachelorette Parties
  • Birthday Parties
  • Business Skills Training
  • Virtual Yacht Club

After successfully completing this short, easy online course you will be able to:

  • Create a virtual event
  • Launch a Zoom
  • Set-up tickets on Eventbrite
  • Host and co-host a virtual event
  • Set goals and metrics for a successful event
  • Help us raise money for Elevating Connections connecting events

Now that you’ve learned about the course it’s time to get started.

Case Study #1 “Annie Get Your Pen”
Little Annie D’Joakley performed her first poem live for the audience of the Elevating Connections Virtual Poetry Jam. She found her voice. After the show, Annie was inspired to convert her idea for pub theatre into a virtual event.

Annie enjoyed performing on Zoom. Her friends and mentors enjoyed her performance. She’s a got a smartphone,

What happens in the 5-steps of Virtual Event Production?

  • In the first lesson of this course, we’ll complete STEP 1 by writing and sharing a General Information Sheet. First, you’ll learn from a few examples of General Informations Sheets for the ApocaLips Comedy Show and Open Mike.
  • Now, you’re already working on STEP 2 Pre-Production. You’ll learn by watching us complete pre-production for upcoming virtual events. See examples of how to set-up Zoom meeting and Eventbrite tickets.
  • Next, we’ll learn how to produce a virtual event by rehearsing for STEP 3 Production. We’ll practice how to host and co-host a Zoom meeting. And, we’ll have some laughs as our guest comedians perform funny, original 1-Pint Plays for Virtual Pub Theatre.
  • In STEP 4 Post-Production, we’ll say “Thank you” to our audience, cast, crew and stakeholders. Discover how Colorado Comedy Shows delivers extra laughs and customer service with a virtual thank you note.
  • As the online course wraps up, we’ll perform a dress rehearsal and learn about STEP 5 Evaluation. We’ll evaluate our

Creative Writing Challenge | Write Notes About Your Event

It’s time for some brainstorming.

Imagine What Happens At Your Event

Activity: Think about your idea(s) for a virtual event. Make notes.

You may already have notes, ideas or a virtual event in progress. If not, take a moment to think about your virtual event.

  • What’s the purpose of your event?

  • How many people need to connect?

  • Who’s gathering for an event?

  • When is the event?

  • Who needs to know about this event?

  • What do they need to know about your event?

As an event producer, I’ve used one simple, easy trick to turn my ideas into successful events.

Start with Step 1 and write a General Information Sheet

When I want to produce a live comedy show or virtual event, there’s a few questions to answer.

  • Who?

  • What?

  • When?

  • Where?

  • Why?

In the next activity, you’ll learn how the General Information Sheet helps me start production and build a virtual event media kit.
